SEP 2021 - MAY 2022 | VIRTUAL WORKSHOP

VIRTUAL WORKSHOP SERIES

With Quynh Nguyen and Jessie Chui

Join our paper flower community for a series of 8 virtual workshops. We’ll start with basic techniques, then work step by step on specific paper flowers (bomb peony, hybrid tea rose, Japanese anemone, double flowered stock) and foliage (jasmine vine, eucalpytus). We will conclude with a class on how to arrange all of these creations into a fun and elegant display.

Materials and tools are not provided with these classes, but you can purchase a kit with paper, glue, and Kai Scissors from our partner, The Posey Box. If you want to gather the supplies yourself, we’ll provide a list beforehand for each class.

These workshops are all about teaching you skills that can be used later on, so we’ll show how to adapt our flowers with different options like increasing realism, making them more durable, and using various colors. We’ll also cover more advanced techniques for you old pros out there.

Pricing with Confidence

With Quynh Nguyen, Jessie Chui and special guests, Jesalyn Pettigrew and Erin Shackelford

As small business owners, so much of what we do overlaps with other industries, which is why we’ve invited flower farmer Jesalyn Pettigrew and fresh florist Erin Shackelford to discuss pricing in our first Paper X Talk conversation.

Our series on pricing will cover all of the doubts, questions, and problems you face when selling your goods or services: how to price yourself compared to competitors, scaling pricing for different product experiences, and more.

October 17 | Setting the Stage: How did you get to the pricing you are currently using?

November 14 | Diving Deeper: What aspects do you consider when pricing?

December 5 | The C Word: Competition

Learn how to be an elastic artist

With Quynh Nguyen, Jessie Chui and special guest, Margie Keates of The Lovely Ave

Join us in this lecture as we discuss how and why we started paper flower businesses, and how we overcome that dreaded party crasher: imposter syndrome.

Here’s what the first part of the lecture will cover:

  • How to grow as an artist after learning from tutorials.

  • How to find your voice as you evolve in your paper flower journey.

  • How you find balance between inspiration and imitation.

We’ll have time for Q&A, and for even more in-depth help, you can add-on a Mentorship Mini Session. These 30 minutes breakout rooms will give you the opportunity to work in a small group with one of our panelists, diving into the topic that most interests you:

  • Jessie - How to identify as an artist while juggling motherhood.

  • Margie - How to try new things as an artist but still keep your brand consistent.

  • Quynh - How to cross-brand on multiple platforms as you grow, and how to reuse content in multiple ways.

This lecture is now closed. But don’t despair! The recording of the first part of the lecture is now available for purchase.

APRIL 9-12, 2019 | 4-DAY MASTERCLASS

SEATTLE

From April 9th to April 12th in 2019, 18 students, 11 instructors and 2 vendors came together at a beautiful family-owned flower farm, Pine Creek Nursery and Farm, in Monroe, Washington, to connect, share, and elevate the art of all paper florists. Four 4 days, we learned from each other, made new friends, and came away feeling empowered.

Students came from all over the world including the United States, Australia, Japan, and South Korea. Some students were established paper florist entrepreneurs; some made paper flowers as a hobby; and some had very little experience with paper flowers. Regardless of experience, each and every one of us wanted to connect with other like-minded creatives, to talk about the joys of creating, to share common frustrations, to be inspired, and to grow as artists and/or entrepreneurs.
